About Bush Chinquapin (Chrysolepis sempervirens) 1 Nurseries Carry This Plant Bush Chinquapin (Chrysolepis sempervirens) is a native shrub that grows in northern, southern and central California. It is slow growing and moderately long-lived. It grows in a semi-upright form to a height of 7 feet, with active growth during the spring and summer. Flowers are green and bloom in the mid summer. Leaves are medium green, and remain on the plant throughout the year. It tends to grow in rocky slopes, at elevations from 2500-11000 feet.
